Elisa was one of the founders of the MVYSO. Her passion for music education is evident in all of her work with the MVYSO. She holds a degree in Therapeutic Recreation from CSU Fresno. This has helped her to make MVYSO fun ... and a little different!

Beginning Strings Instructor & Violin Coach
Emily holds a degree in violin performance from Central Washington University. She teaches privately in Maple Valley and Auburn and coaches for several Puget Sound schools as well as the MVYSO. Her love for teaching strings is evident in all of her interactions with her students.

The MVYSO is thrilled to be bringing Cherlyn on board this season. She played a big part in the start up of the MVYSO by sending us her top two violin students as part of our original 8 students.holds a Master of Music in Violin Performance from the St. Louis Conservatory of Music and a Bachelor of Music from North Park University in Chicago. She enjoys a very active career as a performing artist, composer, arranger and private teacher. She loves to help students engage, excel, create and soar. Cherlyn Johnson - Debut Instructor & Strings Specialist
David Baldock - Conductor & Program Director
Mr. Baldock is a retired band teacher from the Kent School District. He is a private brass instructor and an all around highly skilled music teacher. Students describe his classes as "epic." He conducts our Symphony Orchestra and our Philharmonia Orchestra, leading large group sectionals for winds and percussion for Philharmonia, Jr. Symphony and Symphony, training coaches, and providing artistic feedback for our ensembles. He holds a Masters in Educational Admin. from Central Washington University and a Bachelors of Music Education from Wheaton College. He currently teaches privately, works with the WMEA, and works with band programs all over the Puget Sound. Dbaldock@mvyso.org
Naomi Fanshier - Reeds Coach
Naomi has been playing clarinet since the age of 10, playing throughout high school and college. She holds a Bachelors in Music - clarinet performance from Pacific Lutheran University. She teaches privately in Maple Valley and performs around the Puget Sound Area. *MVYSO Studio Teacher
Chamber Winds Instructor & Low Brass Coach
Mike holds a Bachelor's of Music, Trombone Performance from Univeristy of Redlands. He has worked with several youth symphony orchestras and camps around the US and has participated in the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is an advocate for dreaming, believing, striving, and achieving. He will teach privately, perform professionally, and coach around the Puget Sound Area.

Marenka Dobes - Double Reeds Coach
Marenka Holds a Bachelor's Degree in Instrumental Music Performance from Pacific Lutheran University. She performs in the Seattle Metropolitain Chamber Orchestra, Seattle Rock Orchestra, and Seattle Wind Symphony. She is a freelance performer on bassoon and has performed with Puget Sound Concert Opera, Puget Sound Symphony, Skagit Valley Chorale, and Michael W Smith. She has also performed in several musical theater productions. *MVYSO Studio Teacher
String Sinfonietta Instructor and Cello Coach
Daniel holds a Bachelor's of Music in Cello Performance from University of Redlands. He is a gifted performing artist and teacher. He teaches privately, performs in several ensembles including Northwest Ballet's Orchestra, and coaches cello. He has studied music and world instruments in Hungary. He is dedicated to creating positive music education experiences for youth. *MVYSO Studio Teacher
Jarrod Snyder - Trumpet Coach
Jarrod was one of MVYSO's first 10 members. He has been playing for 11 years and has taught privately for the past 3 years. He has completed the Music Theory Program at Bellevue College. Jazz improv is one of his specialties. He enjoys inspiring creativity in our students.
Craig Winter - Percussion Coach
Susan holds a Bachelors of Music in Music Business Administration from Washington State University. While at WSU, she was also involved in music leadership and viola performance. She teaches privately, works at Hammond Ashley Violins, and coaches viola. Her energy and enthusiasm are an inspiration to her students. *MVYSO Studio Teacher
Janea Christensen, MT-BC - Special Needs Program Director
Janea Christensen, a Board Certified Music Therapist. Janea has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy from Utah State University and has clinical experience working with adults and children with developmental disabilities. Additionally, she has worked with older adults and adults with mental illnesses. email@example.com
Garrett Reynolds - Violin Coach
Garret was one of MVYSO's original 8 students. After graduating from high school, he went to Berklee College of Music where he earned his bachelors degree in Music Production and Engineering. He has played violin for 16 years and has studied with Cherlyn Johnson.

Susan Speicher - Viola Coach & Admin Assistant
Craig holds a Bachelor's Degree in Instrumental Music Education from Arizona State University where he studied orchestral percussion with Dr. J.B. Smith, Dr. Mark Sunkett, and Phoenix Symphony Principal Percussionist, Bill Wanser. He also has a passion for marching percussion and has performed with professional drumlines for both the Phoenix Suns and the Arizona Cardinals, and is now a tenor player with the Seahawks Blue Thunder Drumline. Craig currently teaches percussion privately and at several high schools including Tahoma High School.
Nathan Harrison - Jr. Symphony Conductor and Artistic Director
The MVYSO is pleased to have Nathan Harrison rounding out our staff to help bring our students the most fun and talented group of coaches and instructors of any Youth Symphony. He is an Orchestra Teacher at Kentwood High School and Mattson Middle School in Kent School District. His primary instrument is cello. He brings 25 years of music education experience to our team. His teaching awards include Kentwood PTSA Outstanding Educator of the Year, 2012, Kentwood PTSA Distiguished Educator 2010 just to name a few. After his "audition" for our students, they made comments such as "Keep Him!" and "That was so fun!" Nathan holds a BA in K-12 Instrumental Education from University of Puget Sound and a Masters in Educational Technology from City University. He studied conducting under Dr. Nikolas Caoile at Central Washington University.
